We set up Soul Midwives Scotland (as the SMS End of Life Companions Community Interest Company) because we are passionate about providing support in Scotland:

Our vision is to promote the work of Soul Midwives in Scotland in actively caring for the dying, to facilitate Soul Midwives Scotland services for those who are dying and their carers, and to provide information about the dying process and how to support it. So…

We can commission TLC Days and community events that will help you to learn more about the dying process
We can provide resources and information that will help you to explore what choices there are around end of life and after death care

I had been involved in complementary therapies for several decades, and whilst undertaking Shamanic Practitioner training, and Soul Midwifery training between 2020-2022, I became passionate about the processes of death and dying. I am currently dormant as a practising Soul Midwife, as I’m busy caring for my husband, so being a Vision Holder keeps me actively involved with a wonderful group of people.

The Twelve Principles

All the Soul Midwives in Soul Midwives Scotland have undertaken their studies in Soul Midwifery with Felicity Warner at The Soul Midwives School and subscribe to these Twelve Principles of Soul Midwifery.

To work as non-medical holistic companions who guide and support a dying person in order to facilitate a gentle and tranquil death.
To support and recognise the individual needs of the dying person and ensure that they feel loved and supported.
To create and hold a sacred and healing space for the dying person (whether in a hospital, a hospice or at home).
To respect and honour a dying person’s religious/spiritual or atheist/agnostic beliefs and practices.
To work as non-denominational, multi-faith practitioners who honour the dying person’s beliefs about life, death or the afterlife.
To listen, provide gentle therapeutic techniques, and ensure compassionate care at all times.
To ‘serve’ our friend; not aim to ‘fix’ or ‘rescue’.
To give healing, using sound, touch, colour, scented oils or other gentle techniques to alleviate pain and anxiety.
To keep a loving vigil.
To work holistically with the spirit and soul of our friends at all levels and stages of transition.
To support families and their loved ones, giving loving care with a human touch.
To provide comfort, continuous support and reassurance in helping a dying person to experience the death he or she wants.
